๐ Garden Guardians
A story about quiet courage.
The Story
The garden was perfect. Flowers bloomed in impossible colors, fruit hung heavy on every branch, and the bugs who lived there knew only peace. Until the fog rolled in โ a toxic green mist that crept from the compost heap at the garden's edge. Bugs who breathed it turned violent, mindless, their eyes glazing over with a sickly green glow. Within hours, the garden was a warzone.
Garden Guardians is a story about three small bugs who refuse to let their home die. It's about courage in the face of overwhelming odds, sacrifice that costs more than you expect, and the fierce determination to protect what matters โ even when protecting it means losing something you love. This is not a lighthearted adventure. The garden is dying, and saving it will demand everything our heroes have.
The journey takes the party through four zones โ the Rose Garden (where the infection first spread), the Compost Heap (source of the toxic fog), the Toxic Stream (a polluted waterway feeding the corruption), and finally The Hive (where the Queen Wasp orchestrates the garden's destruction). Each zone is darker than the last, and the stakes escalate until one hero makes the ultimate sacrifice to save the others.
Characters
Inch ๐ โ The Warrior
An inchworm who never thought of himself as brave. Inch is slow to act but strong when he commits โ 130 HP and 18 Attack make him the party's anchor. He's terrified of what's happening to the garden but pushes forward because his friends need him. His character arc is about discovering that bravery isn't the absence of fear โ it's moving forward despite it. Inch is the last one standing in more ways than one.
Bea ๐ โ The Rogue
A honeybee whose hive was sealed shut by the toxic fog, trapping her sisters inside. Bea fights with desperate urgency โ every moment spent adventuring is a moment her family suffocates. With 95 HP but 22 Attack, she hits hard and fast, the highest raw damage dealer in the party. Her dialogue is sharp, impatient, and practical. She doesn't have time for speeches. She has a hive to save.
Lucky ๐ โ The Healer
A ladybug with a calm demeanor and 24 Magic โ the party's lifeline. Lucky is the emotional heart of the group: the one who keeps spirits up when hope fades, the one who reminds the others why they're fighting. Her healing magic has saved Inch and Bea countless times. But Lucky knows something the others don't โ she knows what the garden needs to survive, and she's already decided she'll give it. Her sacrifice at the Toxic Stream is the game's emotional turning point.
Themes & Narrative
Garden Guardians uses its insect-scale world to explore themes that resonate far beyond the garden's borders:
Courage Despite Fear
Inch is afraid from the very first dialogue line. He says so explicitly: "I don't know if I canโ" But he goes anyway. The game never pretends bravery means fearlessness. Every step forward is a choice, and that choice is what makes it heroic.
Sacrifice
Lucky's sacrifice is not a heroic blaze of glory. It's quiet, deliberate, and devastating. She uses her light magic to purify the Toxic Stream โ permanently โ but the effort consumes her entirely. The party loses their healer, their optimist, their heart. The final zone must be completed without her, and the game is harder for it. The ending screen reads simply: "For Lucky."
Protecting What Matters
None of these bugs are warriors by nature. They're garden bugs โ they eat leaves, pollinate flowers, and bask in sunlight. They fight because they have to, not because they want to. The Queen Wasp is destroying their home, and doing nothing means losing everything. The game asks: what would you sacrifice to protect the place that made you who you are?
Combat Guide
Party Composition
The party operates as a classic RPG trio: Inch tanks damage with high HP and defense, Bea deals burst physical damage, and Lucky keeps everyone alive with healing magic. This changes after the Toxic Stream zone when Lucky sacrifices herself โ suddenly you're a two-member party with no dedicated healer. The difficulty spike is intentional and emotionally devastating.
Boss Strategies
- Aphid King (Rose Garden): Moderate difficulty. Use Lucky's heals to sustain while Bea and Inch chip away. Save magic for critical moments
- Dung Beetle Warlord (Compost Heap): High defense (10). Bea's physical damage is less effective โ lean on magic from Lucky and Inch's raw attack power
- Toxic Centipede (Toxic Stream): The last fight with Lucky. Use her healing aggressively โ she won't be around for the next zone. Go all-out on offense
- Queen Wasp (The Hive): The hardest fight in the game. 185 HP, 22 Attack, 11 Defense. Without Lucky, you must win through pure offense. Heal with Inch when desperate, but prioritize attacking with both remaining heroes
Tips
- Always kill the miniboss before engaging the zone boss โ the stat recovery between fights matters
- Bea's high attack makes her the primary damage dealer โ have her attack every turn if possible
- Lucky's magic is stronger than her physical attack โ use spells for damage when the party is healthy
- After Lucky's sacrifice, Inch must occasionally heal instead of attacking โ accept the slower pace
- The Queen Wasp boss uses AoE attacks that hit both remaining heroes โ you cannot out-heal her without Lucky
